The Toronto/Ottawa studio of Perkins&Will is a multi-disciplinary practice specializing in the design of public spaces and buildings, including transit stations, recreation centres, libraries, and academic facilities. With our strong emphasis on sustainable design we work with like-minded public and private sector clients to develop innovative urban solutions.  Responsible for writing, editing and coordinating architectural specifications and related documents including master specifications. This role requires the ability to travel between our Ottawa and Toronto offices from time to time.

 

Qualifications

Education Professional Degree or Diploma in Architecture, Architectural Technologist, Architectural Science or another Construction related field Experience 5-10 years experience Thorough knowledge of architectural & interior design, documentation, detailing, building materials and codes, construction techniques and costs, as well as building material compatibility and characteristics. Practical knowledge of general architecture & interior design practice including programming, site planning, civil, structural, mechanical and electrical engineering. Knowledge of industry standards, current product development, and architectural practices. Experience with contract language, liability, indemnifications, and definitions. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Collaborative and professional work ethic CSC certified is preferred Our Studio: We are steps away from many amenities and also easily accessible by bike, public transportation and car. Duties

Design Adheres to firm and project goals of excellence in design, execution, and sustainability Technical Prepares outline specifications for design development phases; assembles project manuals for construction documents phase; and prepares addenda during bidding phase Provides problem solving assistance in connection with the architectural design and detailing of large projects Reviews shop drawings and material submittals for general conformance with design intent Conduct quality control review of construction documents while researching and preparing specifications Checks and coordinates details and dimensions Performs material research for preparation of project specifications Become knowledge of and perform tasks in accordance with the P+W, Project Delivery manual (PDM) Computer skill that are essential include Word, Excel and a familiarity with Revit and/ or BIM is also preferred Management Assists in supervising project document control tasks and in maintaining quality control Plans, schedules, organizes and executes specification development for projects with interaction within the project team Organizes and plans accordingly to execute tasks Self-checks work for accuracy, omissions and legibility Direct and mentor junior specification writers Coordinate and manage work in multiple offices in Ontario Collaborate with peers through P+W organization
